How do I get to Cusco?
Considering you are coming by air from your country, you’ll arrive to Lima which is the Capital of Perú. From Lima there are 2 ways to get to Cusco:
- By air: it takes about 1 hour 10 min.
- By bus: it usually takes 22 hours.
How do I get to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu village)?
From Cusco there are 3 ways
1st by train from Ollantaytambo Station which is about 1 hour and 45 minutes by road from Cusco. The journey by train is about 1 hour and 30 minutes to the final station in Aguas Calientes (actually Machu Picchu is the official name of this village).
2nd by train from Poroy Station which is about 25 minutes by road from Cusco, and can be reached by local taxi. The journey by train is about 3 hours and 20 minutes to the final station in Aguas Calientes.
3rd by road for 5 hours directly from Cusco to “Hidroelectrica” Station and then 20 minutes by train from that station to Aguas Calientes however currently there are few train departures per day.
How do I get to Machu Picchu Citadel?
There is just one road from Aguas Calientes to Machupicchu Citadel, it’s a 25 minutes bus ride. The buses to Machu Picchu operate throughout the day, and depart either Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu when they are full.
What do I need to enter to Machu Picchu Citadel?
The access to the Citadel is through the main entrance, there you have to show a printed copy of the ticket and your Passport.
If you have ticket Machu Picchu Citadel + Huayna Picchu, Additionally you’ll have to show the ticket and the passport in the Huayna Picchu control hut, 20 minutes from the main entrance.
If you have ticket Machu Picchu Citadel + Mountain, Additionally you’ll have to show the ticket and the passport in the control hut, 25 minutes from the main entrance.
What should I wear and take during the visit?
You should wear light clothes and a bag carrying just what is necessary like:
Sun hat, sun glasses & sun block, strong insect repellent, light weight rain coat or poncho especially If you come in rainy season (November – March), passport, camera, walking stick with rubber tip (especially if you hike some of the mountains).
Is it allowed to carry food inside the Citadel?
No. it’s forbidden, however you can take a bottle of water and some small snacks.
What if I lose my entrance ticket?
You can reprint it, if you lose the digital document contact us to send it again.
How do I get my entrance ticket?
Once you buy the entrance ticket(s) a form will be sent to your email, we need you to fill few information of the participants (current info is required). Finally we will send you the entrance ticket(s) in pdf format, you just need to print it and show it (with the passport) when you get to the main entrance of Machu Picchu citadel. We will also provide a map and some helpful information of Machu Picchu and the extra hikes.
Could I change the date of the entrance ticket?
Yes, but some penalties will be applied, as follows:
- Penalty of 35 %, if the request is made 24 hours before the indicated date.
- Penalty of 25 %, if the request is made 48 hours before the indicated date.
- Penalty of 15 %, if the request is made 72 hours before the indicated date.
